This weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, VETMotorsports will be partnering with select International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) teams during the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge. VETMotorsports' mission is to honor and empower disabled combat veterans through active participation in motor sports. Currently the non-profit places post 9/11 wounded combat veterans behind the wheel in sanctioned autocross events, and embeds them as pit crew members within select AMA Pro Road Racing teams. This is VETMotorsports' first time in the IMSA paddock, and assisting the veterans will be the Mazda powered SpeedSource and Freedom Autosport teams.
“Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is familiar with our program. In 2013 VETMotorsports placed wounded combat veterans into Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series teams during their AMA Pro Road Racing event. Johanna Koch (Public Relations and Social Media Manager) contacted us about pairing VETMotorsports within two IMSA teams, and we felt this would be a fantastic opportunity. Our veteran participants get to be placed into two world class Mazda teams, and VETMotorsports gets to have a presence in the IMSA paddock for the first time. VETMotorsports is grateful for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca making the arrangements, and to provide this generation of wounded veterans a unique and powerful outlet to showcase their value,” stated VETMotorsports Executive Director and Founder Peter Cline.
