AUSTIN, Tex., April 20, 2017 – Through VETMotorsports, an award-winning, non-clinical outreach program that honors and empowers injured veterans through active participation in motorsports, United States Army and Marine Corps veterans with service-related injuries will be embedded with Dead Presidents Racing and Bob’s BMW team owner and rider Jeremy Cook for MotoAmerica’s season-opening Championship of Texas at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Tex. on April 21-23.
VETMotorsports was created to provide inspiration and motivation to post-9/11 veterans with service-related injuries by making them part of a new team and giving them a new mission. The program recruits participants, embeds them with professional race teams and covers all expenses for them a caregiver to take part in the experience.
“We couldn’t be prouder to have these two dedicated heroes with us in Austin,” said Dead Presidents Team Owner Cook. “They and other veterans like them face a lot of challenges as they re-enter their lives after surviving combat some of those are seen by anyone looking and others cannot be seen externally. Being a Marine veteran myself made me want to work with organizations like VETMotorsports because they provide a great opportunity for Veterans to re-assimilate, to be apart of something good, to see they are valued and value-added to my team, and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
Embedded with the Bob’s BMW team at COTA will be U.S. Army Specialist Rod A. and U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Alex D., both of whom served in Iraq. Rod is from Killeen, while Alex, a Purple Heart recipient, hails from Cibolo.
“Race teams participating in the VETMotorsports program have positively affected the lives of more than 160 injured veterans,” said VETMotorsports Founder Peter Cline. “Having Dead Presidents Racing and the Bob’s BMW team stand behind us in our endeavor to reduce the shocking number of veterans we’re losing to suicide each day is incredibly gratifying. We can’t thank the team enough for embracing these injured veterans and offering them renewed hope by making them a part of a team again.”
VETMotorsports is an award-winning, non-profit, non-clinical outreach program that honors and empowers injured post-9/11 service members by embedding them with professional racing teams and putting them behind the wheel to race in amateur events. By placing veterans in hands-on, high-stress, team environments that mimic active duty, the organization gives them direction, empowerment and challenges that help them focus on ability and moving forward rather than disability and the past. Since its founding in 2012, VETMotorsports has helped more than 160 injured veterans participate in 60 motorcycle and auto racing events across the United States.
