VETMotorsports Crewed Ducati's Storm to Top Three in Pikes Peak Qualifying.

6/28/2014 Upper Arlington, Ohio.

VETMotorsports and Team Spider Grips / Ducati stormed to top qualifying positions on Friday for the 92nd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Injured Marine combat veterans have been working all week their team's Ducati Multistrada 1200 motorcycles. The veteran participants were referred to VETMotorsports through the United States Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment. VETMotorsports mission throughout the event is to honor and engage disabled combat veterans through active participation in motor sports.

Since this past Tuesday the injured combat Marines have been up at 2:30 am every day to travel to practice locations as high as 12,400 feet above sea level. Temperatures have ranged from mid-70's to the lower 40's. For the Marines their days have been long, sometimes 18-hour days to assist Team Spider Grips / Ducati's efforts. Another concern has been hypoxia, a condition in which the body or a region of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply. With practice sessions being at high altitude, VETMotorsports has had to ensure that their Marine participants have kept themselves hydrated, fed and taken oxygen as needed.

“This week with Team Spider Grips / Ducati at Pikes Peak has been a test of endurance and conditioning," added VETMotorsports Executive Director and Founder Peter Cline. "Our injured Marine veterans have risen to the occasion, and VETMotorsports now stands to possibly be on the podium at one of the world's most challenging motorsports events. VETMotorsports is grateful for the opportunity and we look forward to the checkered flag on Sunday. By embedding veterans into positive environment, VETMotorsports is attempting to provide direction and empowerment."

Injured Combat Veterans to Assist Team Spider Grips / Ducati at Pikes Peak.

6/14/2014 Upper Arlington, Ohio.

VETMotorsports will be partnering with Team Spider Grips / Ducati's efforts at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. VETMotorsports will join the team immediately after their outreach concludes at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL with AMA Pro Road Racing. Currently the non-profit places post 9/11 wounded combat veterans behind the wheel in sanctioned autocross events, and embeds them as pit crew members within select AMA Pro Road Racing teams.

The Marine combat veterans will be on the mountain beginning Monday June 23rd through the 29th. During some of the practice sessions the crews will be working as high as 12,000 feet above sea level and arriving as early as 3 am. This will be VETMotorsports' first time at Pikes Peak, and their mission throughout the event is to honor and engage disabled combat veterans through active participation in motor sports.

“We are very excited to have VETMotorsports involved with our team this year," stated Paul Livingston (owner, Team Spider Grips). "The Marine veterans will be a key part of our attempt on Pikes Peak, and we hope that together we will be a winning team!”

“We are very fortunate to get connected with Team Spider Grips efforts at Pikes Peak," added VETMotorsports Executive Director and Founder Peter Cline. "Livingston contacted us through a mutual connection about pairing VETMotorsports with his efforts, and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for everyone involved. Our veteran participants are all combat tested Marines, and VETMotorsports gets to work with one of the world's most attractive motorcycles; Ducati. VETMotorsports is grateful for Team Spider Grips and their sponsors for making this possible. Every day 22 veterans commit suicide. By embedding veterans into positive environment, VETMotorsports is attempting to provide direction and empowerment."
